Where do I get started? Creating a Blog with Blogger? HOW?

You can create and manage your own blog with Blogger.

Don't worry if you have never blogged before; you will find detailed step-by-step instructions below. And don't be nervous; I think you will be surprised when you find out how easy it is to use a blog. It's basically like email, but a lot more fun. :-)

Part 1. You will create a Google account for this class (if you don't have one already)
Part 2. You will create a Blogger (Google) blog
Part 3. Manage and modify important blog settings

PART ONE: CREATE YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT
Google Account. Please begin this assignment by creating a Google account. A Google account will also be very useful if you decide later in the semester to build a website with the Google Sites website tool.
Step 1: Google account. It's easy to create an account: Create your Google Account. If you already have a Google account, move on to Step 2.
Step 2. Google account security. I would recommend that you check your Google account security to make sure you have set up an account recovery procedure along with any other privacy settings you want to adjust. Here is the Google Security Checklist. The key thing is to make sure you have a recovery email and/or recovery phone number in case you forget your password.

PART TWO: CREATE YOUR BLOG
Create a blog: The instructions below are for “Blogger” blog site.

Step 1. Create a new “Blogger” blog. To create your new blog, go to Blogger.com, log in with your Google account (if you are not logged in already). Click the New Blog button that you see on the right-hand side of the Blogger home screen. You will then need to give your blog a title (you can change the title whenever you want), but for the purposes of this class I recommend naming it using your first name followed by the word blog (for example, Christy’s blog). You can then choose the web address (it's not really important what this is, but you cannot change the address later, so keep the address short and simple).
For now, choose any template. I would recommend the Simple template for now, and you can experiment with the detailed template options later.
To summarize:
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. On the left, click the Down arrow.
  3. Click New blog.
  4. Enter a name for your blog.
  5. Choose a blog address, or URL.
  6. Choose a template.
  7. Click Create blog.

PART THREE: MANAGE AND MODIFY YOUR BLOG
Step 1. Modify/Check other settings. There are lots of ways you can design your blog, and you'll have plenty of opportunity to try out something new later. For now, though, there are a few key settings you need to adjust. To adjust your settings, click on Design in the upper-right-hand corner, and then click on the Settings item at the bottom of the left-hand menu. Here are the settings you should adjust using the Settings submenu on the left:
·  Use a Blogger-specific profile. Sign in to Blogger. In the left menu, click Settings and then User settings. Under “General,” next to “User Profile,” choose “Blogger.” Then, in the top right, click Edit. Make your changes. click Save settings.
·   Posts and comments. For "Who can comment?" choose "Users with Google Accounts." In my experience, choosing this option pretty much eliminates any spam at your blog. Since you have limited comments to Google users, you can turn off the word verification. Members of the class (who all have Google accounts) will be leaving comments at your blog, and if you turn off the word verification, that will make the commenting process easier for them. If you run into problems with spam, let me know and we can strategize about that! Click Save Settings to save your choices on this page.
·   Mobile and email. Make sure you put in a "comment notification email address" that is an address you check regularly. This can be any address at all; it does not have to be your Gmail address. Use whatever email address you check most often. Don't forget to click Save Settings to save your choice on this page.
·   Language and formatting. Choose your time zone, and then don't forget to click Save Settings one more time to save your choice on this page.
